Ways to Serve: Ministries

LITURGY:

Music
“I will sing your praise in the midst of the assembly.: Heb 2:12

If the Lord has given you a good voice and a desire to sing or the ability and gift to play a musical instrument, consider joining the music ministry in our Parish.

The choirs are directed by Wade Gachassin. Call the office @ 337-364-8360 if you are interested. You are needed!

Lector
Being a lector at Mass is a wonderful way to serve the People of God in our parish. It’s not just saying words but proclaiming the WORD OF GOD.

Consider using your time and talents in this beautiful ministry. Call the office @ 337-364-8360 about this ministry.

Extraordinary Minister of Communion

“Take this all of you, and eat it, this is my body...take this, all of you, and drink from it. This is the cup of my blood.” Eucharistic Prayer

To give the “Body and Blood of Jesus Christ” to our brothers and sisters in Christ is an awesome privilege. Are you worthy? No, none of us is worthy, but we are striving to grow in holiness. If you are being called to this ministry, call Msgr. Romero at the church office @ 337-364-8360.

Usher
Ushers are sometimes the first persons to meet people and make them feel welcome. They are the first ones to serve those coming to worship the Lord by finding a place for them. They also collect the “treasures” we bring to the Lord. Call the office @ 337-364-8360 if you are being called to this ministry.

Our Lady’s Altar Society
“The holy women tended to the needs of Our Lord.”

This ministry takes care of the needs of Our Lord’s dwelling place. In this ministry the hosts, wine, altar clothes, towels, and other needs are purchased and weekly the ladies gather in teams to enhance the beauty of the sanctuary. Anyone wishing to serve in this worthwhile ministry, call Margo LeBlanc @ 337-380-3319.

Altar Servers
A beautiful way for the young people of our parish to get into ministry is to serve Our Lord on the altar. To be so close when the host and wine are changed into the Body and Blood of Christ! Wow! It’s a way to serve the people in the church also. Anyone going into the 4th grade year and any grade above is welcome to serve in this wonderful ministry, call Andree Schlicher at 337-577-1414.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION:

Faith Formation Teaching Ministry
This is a ministry that helps to bring the Word of God to all school children. In some cases this is the only opportunity they have to know about Jesus and learn about their faith. Pray and discern this calling - there is such an urgent need. If you are interested in joining this ministry, please call Janet at Barsen Hall @ 337-365-3759.

Vacation Bible School
“Let the little children come to me.” Luke 18:16

This is a fun, exciting ministry in our parish. It is for one week in the summer. You can teach, supply snacks, fix props, etc. There’s something for everyone. Call Janet at Barsen Hall @ 337-365-3759.

SOCIAL NEEDS:

Our Lady of Sorrow
Helping cook food for a family who has lost a loved one is a great help and comfort to those in grief. We are in need of volunteers at this time. Please consider using your time and talents in this beautiful ministry. Call Barbara Breaux @ 337-380-7266 or the office @ 337-364-8360 to inquire.

COMMUNITY LIFE:

St. Francis Diner

A wonderful way to feed the hungry is by working at St. Francis Diner. We have 2 Nativity teams that have a special day each month. They prepare the food and serve it to those in need. If you want to help, call Barbara Breaux @ 337-380-7266 or Athena Fage @ 337-364-4665.

Youth Group
This is an excellent ministry for the youth of our parish. They get an opportunity to grow in fellowship with their peers, they get to help those in need, and they get to play together, pray together, work together and laugh together. For youth wishing to join or adults wanting to help, call Barsen Hall @ 337-365-7359,

SPIRITUAL LIFE:

Baptism Team
Once a month our Baptism Team helps to prepare parents and godparents for their role in the spiritual life of their child. They encourage the parents to pray with their child from the cradle, to protect the child from evil and encourage the child’s reception of the sacraments to enable them to be strong and faithful to their calling as children of God. If you are interested in this ministry, please call the office @ 337-364-8360.

Nativity Wake Ministry
“Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Matthew 5:4

Leading and reciting the Rosary at the funeral home with the family who has lost a loved one is a great help and comfort to those in grief. The Coordinator is Cynthia Elmer and there are multiple teams. If you are interested in joining this ministry or for more information, please call Cynthia Elmer @ 337-364-2408.

On Wednesday @ 8:20am at the Church, the pro-life rosary is recited. The members also participate in the Walk for Life held in January of each year at St. Peter Church. If you are interested in this ministry, call Brenda Romero @ 337-365-3421.

That Man is You (TMIY)
“That Man is You” is an interactive men’s program focused upon the development of authentic male leadership. With over sixty men meeting every Tuesday, TMIY is a great success. Please contact St. Peter’s Church @ 337-369-3816.

Come Lord Jesus!
Come, Lord Jesus! is a program based on prayer, Scripture, Eucharist and community as in Acts 2:42. It evangelizes its members in small faith communities the way Jesus did. Members meet weekly to reflect upon and discuss the Sunday Scripture readings. They are led to a personal knowledge of Jesus as they fulfill the mission of the Come, Lord Jesus program which is to be transformed into the very image and likeness of Jesus Christ. Call Larry Viator @ 337-256-1307 for more information.
